Margaret Mackay; (1802 to 1887[1]) , the daughter of Capt.
Biography
Robert Mackay, was born at Inverness, Scotland, in 1802. In 1820 she was married to Col. William Mackay, a distinguished officer in the English army. She died January 5, 1887. Her Thoughts Redeemed; or, Lays of Leisure Hours, 1854, contained seventy-two of her hymns and poems. Among her prose works, The Family at Heatherdale was most widely read. Of all modern funeral hymns, none is oftener sung than her soothing and tender lyric,[2]
